Emergency Survival Skills Can't Be Taken From Us!

That's right.

They can steal our STUFF but can't touch our SKILLS.

I'm NOT saying, don't store up emergency survival supplies, but you could have a year's worth of food in your basement and be robbed in ONE night.

If you live in the country, chances are, you will be able to survive just fine for a week or two if things get bad. You will know what to do to find water, or how to find food in the wild, build a shelter, etc.

But there are THOUSANDS of city folks that have never been to the country.

They are the ones that will steal and kill to survive.

When we first started building http://www.emergency-survival-skills.com we just wanted to get some basic survival information out there for folks that just want a simple preparedness plan.

And that is STILL what we are trying to do.

But I just wanted to add a quick post on here about the whole emergency survival SKILLS versus STUFF thought I have been pondering the last while.

It is so very important to learn how to do some of the basic survival stuff. Things like:

Don't quit stockpiling survival stuff - just don't forget about the basic skills! NO ONE can steal or take those from you.

Ever.

Period.

Oh and one last thing... take a vacation.

Seriously.

Go on a camping trip and practice all those survival skills. =)

Survival Camping - Go Spend a Week in The Woods

We just got back from our annual camping trip and as always, we picked up a few great survival camping tips. :)

Nothing like being stuck in the woods for a few days to help you figure out what needs to go into your bug out bags!

We normally take a nice pop up tent along to set up for our cooking area and food shelter but someone borrowed it recently and ruined it so we had to improvise a bit and discovered that a few tarps worked wonders. (thanks to a very handyman of a hubby!)

We had three tarps (6x8 and 10x12) and used the biggest one for a roof, and then tied the others to the sides with poles and twine. ALWAYS HAVE A ROLL OF TWINE AND DUCT TAPE in your camping survival kit.

Duct tape came in very handy on a couple occasions on this trip. We took our solar shower along and managed to puncture it on a small tree branch but duct tape fixed it even with water spurting out. Believe me, after you wait for several hours for a nice warm shower, you DON'T want to lose all that nice warm water!

Survival camping is definitely a fun way to learn how to prepare for emergencies or simply to know what needs to be put in your bugout packs. Each time you do it, you will learn something new.

Another thing we discovered is that the small shovels we took along to dig up treasures we find with our metal detectors worked great for taking care of 'business' in the woods. Dig a hole, ---- in the hole, cover it back up. :)

We had a lot of fun, learned even more about emergency survival and got sunburnt!

How To Put A Bug Out Bag Together

The name bug out bag originated from military pilots having what they called a bail out bag; in case of ejection in enemy territory it would contain all the necessary equipment for survival.

The bugout bag is a similar concept except in this case it contains all the survival gear for urban survival.

There are different ways to decide on the bug out bag contents you want to start with. You can
purchase a ready-made kit with all the basics and add your special requirements such as medicines and special dietary supplements.

Before you get started you should first draw up a bug out bag checklist adding all the necessary equipment you will need for a 72 hour emergency. There are plenty of bug out bags of different sizes and value available off the shelf, use the contents lists of these bags to decipher your own personal bug out bag checklist

The very basics any survivalist will have in their survival gear will be:

  • water for washing and cooking
  • non perishable food for 72 hours
  • water purification supplies
  • cooking supplies
  • fire starting tool
  • folding knife
  • first aid kit

This basic starter pack will enable you to survive for a period of time, but without some survival
knowledge you could still perish.

How proficient you want to be in your urban survival will reflect in your bug out bag, from the
basic survival gear to being completely self sufficient.

The equipment that is now available for your
bugout bag can range from solar paneled back packs for charging batteries, laptops and cell phones to portable toilets. You name it and it is available in a handy bug out bag style.

The bag itself or backpack is probably one of the things you should spend some time considering; you need to make sure it is going to be large enough to hold all your survival gear but not too large that you cannot carry it.

It is probably going to get thrown about from time to time so making sure it is
durable and very waterproof is essential
.

Make sure your entire bug out gear is going to suit your needs and you have not supplemented
essentials to take onboard luxury items. This is a common mistake. When you finally have your pack together make sure that its contents are checked regularly; there would be nothing worse than finally grabbing your backpack in an emergency only to find the torch batteries are flat or the food has perished.

A bug out bag is the most essential piece of equipment that could save your life in an emergency.

Don’t have the attitude that someone in the neighborhood will have survival gear; make it your
responsibility today!

With earthquakes on the rise every day there is a rising need for earthquake kits and with the economy the way it is, many folks are wanting to learn how to make their own earthquake emergency kits.

Many survivalists that are preparing for other crisis events, are looking to add some essentials to their bug out bags in preparation of a 'shaky crisis' - literally speaking!

So whether you are in the processing of building your bug out bag, or are simply looking for some ready made earthquake kits to purchase, we hope you can find some helpful information here.

Some KEY things to look for in an Earthquake Preparedness Kit

Quality of the bag.... you will want to make sure you have a good, strong backpack of some sort that can withstand being hauled around, or tossed around in the trunk of your car for months until you need it.

First Aid Kit...make sure your first aid kit has plenty of supplies such as bandages, pain killers, ace wrap, sling, etc.

Food...a 3600 calorie bar is a great food item to add to your bug out bag or surival kit. Anything smaller is going to be inadequate.... or even better yet, have several freeze dried meals stuffed in somewhere. (You will want the kind that is shake and serve.)

Flashlight and Radio...a solar radio is a GREAT addition.

Shelter, Heat and Warmth...as always, look for quality, but a space blanket or two is a great addition and a tube tent. Also some candles and WATER-PROOF matches.
In conclusion, it basically boils down to the fact of simply having some sort of basic earthquake emergency kit prepared and HANDY to grab at a moments notice.

ProtoGrow - The Miracle Grow for Survival Gardeners!

ProtoGrow is the Amazing new Organic Seaweed Fertilizer that thousands of survival gardeners are raving about.

Some guy in Maine, a researcher, came up with this mixture of kelp and North Atlantic fish emulsion fertilizer and it is sweeping across the nation as the answer to using chemicals such as Miracle Grow, etc, to produce ginormous fruits and veggies.

Yeah, I know, ginormous is probably not a word but I like to use it. :)

Anyways, according to some lab research that has gone on, like at Clemson, they have found that ProtoGrow not only increases the SIZE of your fruits and veggies, but it also increases the NUTRIENTS and , get this, decreases the aging process.

What does that mean?

By decreasing the aging process, it will give you a longer production period.

For indoor gardening and survival gardening , that is huge as it will enable us to get the most out of our gardens.

Enough of my ramblings about it - CLICK HERE NOW to see more details and to order YOUR ProtoGrow today.

Wind Generator Kits for Less Than a Tank of Gas!

If you have been looking for wind generator kits online, you have discovered that there are a gazillion help books and tools to help you get it done.

Which is not all bad!

I am convinced the reason
the first ebook on how to build a wind generator was ever written was because some guy built his own wind generator and then everyone else wanted to know how he did it and eventually he just wrote it all down...

Fortunately now there are videos to help with building a wind generator and many of them are available for under $50!
You will want to make sure you get a good plan with videos.

When looking for a wind generator kits plan, look for the following features:

Illustrations and Videos: Visual descriptions and watch along guides work better than text only ones.

If your wind generator guide has illustrative descriptions for making a windmill, it makes your task easier.

Easy language: If your guide uses a lot of jargon and technical information, it is better to look for a different one.

Look for one that has easy-to-understand language...

•Component descriptions: The guide should also be able to provide you with detailed visual and textual descriptions of all the components you need to use.

It is also important that the guide tells you which type of component works best for your individual situation.

•Last but not least...make sure you get an American guide!

It will be useless to get some plan from Europe or China and you are living in the US.

Survival 2012 Guides - Do We Need Them?

Survival 2012... the date we have heard about for so long is now fast approaching and what should we be doing about it?

A question on many of our minds is..."Is it for real?"

Should I be worried about my family?

How can we prepare for something we know so little about...?

Which is why it is good to be informed, of course... so we HAVE AN IDEA what COULD Happen!

What if 2012 it is just another Y2K??

I do NOT have any answers myself, but have found some interesting information on the internet that I am sharing HERE <---click here

My theory is that it is WAY BETTER to be prepared than to be caught totally unprepared and no means to GET PREPARED!

Regardless WHAT happens in 2012 - our economy and country is at such a state that it is FOLLY to not be prepared for a meltdown!

Supertonic Flu Remedy will Keep Swine Flu at Bay

Supertonic Flu Remedy!

There is so much controversy about taking the swine flu shot or not taking the shot - excuse me, the H1N1 virus shot....and I am totally against giving my kids the H1N1 flu shot...

So I knew I had to find a way to veer off any attacks of "It" whenever it assailed us.

I found it and when my son came home from school with a raging fever , one teaspoon of Supertonic had him on his way again within a day!

But anyways, there is a really mean - and my kids will assure you that it is a MEAN flu remedy that will kill anything that is ailing you, especially the beginning stages of any flu bug that is trying to land on you.

I made my own and it is really simple.

Wilderness Survival Shelters....

When we think "wilderness survival shelter we tend to think of a cave in the snow, or maybe a pile of logs set up for protection, or perhaps even a home in a cave.

There are many ways that you can make a shelter in the wilderness, and it depends of course on what kind of wilderness area you happen to be stranded in.....
or plan to escape to when disaster hits.

The method of survival shelter also depends on what time of year it is.

Although the easiest way to have a shelter is to carry one with you, or have one in your emergency survival kit, there are a variety of ways to form emergency shelters in wilderness areas.

With some simple tools and supplies, you can build what the hunters call a portable camp and be all set for all kinds of weather.

No more wet, damp clothes... cooking over a campfire.... bending in half as you get dressed every morning.....

I think it is quite a cool idea myself. Whether you need a hunting camp or a survival shelter, it will accomplish the same thing.

Someone was thinking when they came up with this plan! They are my camping heros. =)

Pneumonic Plague in China

WORLD NEWS UPDATE Pneumonic Plague in China....

A second man has died of pneumonic plague and 10 people are infected in a north-western Chinese town that authorities have sealed off to avoid the spread of the infectious lung disease.

Officials have placed Ziketan and the surrounding part of Qinghai province in quarantine. The local health bureau has urged anyone with a cough or a fever who has visited the town of 10,000 since mid-July to seek treatment.

The lung disease is caused by the same bacterium as bubonic plague. The World Health Organisation (WHO) says it is the most virulent and least common form of plague, capable of killing sufferers within 24 hours of infection. It spreads through the air and can be passed from person to person by coughing.

So, what do we DO about it???

Urban Survival Handbook -We Finally Found A Good One!

We have been looking for a great Urban Survival Handbook - one that can give you a bunch of information that you can simply download and print out so you can keep it handy... remember, in a power outage you may not be able to google everything!

In The Real World, Most People Don't Have A
Fully Stocked Retreat They Can Escape To.

Even If You've Planned Ahead And You Do,
There's No Guarantee That You'll Leave In Time
Or That You'll Be Able To Make It There.

Your First Plan Must Be To Survive In Place.

Your survival plan should work in real life situations, including:

You're 1,000 miles away on a business trip when "it" happens.
Your kids are on a school trip when it's time to bug out.
Traveling by car is not an option.
One of your family is injured and can't travel.
You have a baby or have to take care of an elderly parent when "it" happens.
The emergency build-up is gradual and there's no clear signal.

Here is one of the ugly realities of our situation today...

Most families won't leave urban areas in time because
they can't afford leaving early and being wrong.

Why? Because it means abandoning your house, friends, job, and sometimes even family.

As a member of Urban Survival Handbook, you'll receive ...

One 5-10 Page Weekly Lesson For 12 Weeks
In Easy To Download .PDF Format

...plus too much to list here - in fact, I'm gonna shut up so you can just go read it for yourself... CLICK HERE to enter the Survival Handbook website now...
